Programs for Students and Educators

Harmony Movement’s interactive and innovative school programs confront prejudice in our society; teach the value of embracing and respecting differences; and help build a positive school climate. Diversity education programs and workshops can be customized depending on your school’s needs. Harmony Movement will also create one or multi-day conferences or off-site retreats to address specific topics and meet the needs of your school, board, organization or community.

Student Programs

Social Changemakers Leadership Program (SCLP)

Designed for grades 7-12, this two-day experiential program for up to 30 students engages participants through games, multi-media activities and impactful group discussions. Students will increase their awareness of personal bias and discrimination, explore concepts of power and privilege, and create action plans for safer and more inclusive school communities.

Race and Racism – Igniting Student Voice

This exciting new program offering empowers students to become advocates for social change in the context of race and racism. In a one-day conference for up to 120 students or a two-day leadership program for up to 30 students, participants will critically explore identity, advocacy and allyship skill building, sharing and respecting lived experiences, deconstructing discrimination, and building skills for transformative conversations. 

Social Changemakers Leadership Conference / Retreat (SCC)

Designed for up to 120 students in grades 7-12, Harmony Movement offers a one-day or multi-day equity leadership conference/retreat. The SCC includes a keynote address, breakout sessions, along with games and experiential learning activities. Students will uncover equity gaps in their schools and communities while also planning social change initiatives to take back with them. The SCC format is available for a single school, a board hosting multiple schools, or a region hosting multiple boards.

Diversity Workshop

Designed for up to 30 participants, these half-day workshops cover a variety of equity-related topics for students in grades 4-12.  Workshops are tailored to meet the specific needs of your school. Please contact us if you would like more information about bringing a diversity workshop to your school.    

School Assembly / Keynote Presentation

This one-hour inspirational student assembly or keynote presentation addresses student leadership and social change by exploring introductory aspects of diversity, equity and inclusion. Harmony Movement can tailor the assembly or presentation to meet the specific needs of your school.

Whole School Approach

Harmony Movement will provide consultation and strategic planning for school administration to develop a multi-semester program that is sustainable, engaging and transformative. The approach will bring together many or all of the components from our programs and conferences, with emphasis on the aspects of student leadership, peer-mentorship, and program legacy. It can also be combined with appropriate levels of equity training for administrators, educators and staff.

SHSM Non-Profit Training

Designed for students enrolled in the SHSM Non-Profit program, these sessions focused on professional practice are specifically catered to fulfill either the compulsory ‘Ethical Considerations’ training requirement or the ‘Equity and Inclusion’ elective training option. Participants must complete an assessment of learning at the end of the program and successful participants will receive a certificate of completion.                   

Action Planning

This half-day program is designed to support students in creating and implementing sustainable initiatives for safer and more inclusive schools.   A Harmony Movement facilitator will work with a group of students to identifying issues to be addressed, resources required and available, steps involved in taking action, and distribution of tasks and responsibilities.  The half-day action planning program is followed by up to eight hours of consultation and implementation support via Skype.

Professional Development for Educators

Harmony Movement’s professional development educator training aims at addressing the importance of equity, diversity and inclusion for all in school environments across Ontario. Workshops are designed for teachers, equity officers, administrators and board personnel, including support staff.

Intercultural Development Inventory Assessment (IDI)®
Harmony Movement is a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory,® an evidence-based assessment tool that helps individuals and teams further understand and develop their intercultural skills.  Our services include:

  • Individual and group profiles and coaching sessions
  • Customized training and resources
  • Strategic planning and workplan development
  • Support with internal communication and facilitating buy-in

Keys to Transformative Dialogue
Responding to the current social and political context affecting schools and communities across the country, we have launched our newest program for educators and administrators -  Keys to Transformative Dialogue. This program equips participants to immediately and effectively engage with students, colleagues, parents and community members in courageous conversations, addressing inequity and discrimination. Participants will receive hands-on tools to apply in their daily interactions, in all areas of their lives.

Educator's Equity Workshop
A full-day workshop for up to 30 educators focused on exploring strategies to create safe, equitable and inclusive learning environments. Through experiential learning activities, guided self-reflection and group work, educators will examine professional practices through an equity lens.  They will develop a greater understanding of the impact of bias on students and themselves. Participants will receive a copy of Harmony Movement’s Educator’s Equity Workbook.

Equity Presentation / Keynote Presentation
A presentation of up to 2.5 hours for school administrators or educators. Participants will learn about the basic principles of equity and inclusion, self-awareness and the concept of an “equity lens” and how equitable practices can contribute to student success. Participants will receive a copy of Harmony Movement’s Educator’s Equity Companion Guide.

Consultation in Equity and Inclusion Education
Harmony Movement offers customized consulting services to schools and school boards to support in planning, implementing and assessing equity and inclusive education initiatives.  Areas can include strategic planning, policy development, professional development, safe school initiatives, student success, and parent/caregiver engagement. These initiatives will support administrators and educators in implementing the province’s Equity and Inclusive Education Strategy, Ontario’s Education Equity Action Plan and the Safe and Accepting Schools Act.
